Master Chief Leet, a Pennsylvania native, enlisted in the Navy in September of 1978. He attended Boot Camp in Great Lakes, Illinois, 2nd Class Dive School at Harbor Clearance Unit Two in 1980 and 1984, 1st Class Dive School in Panama City in 1986, Instructor Training School in 1994, and Master Diver Evaluations in February, 1999.

Master Chief Leets assignments include; USS POPAGO (ATF 160), USS PETREL (ASR 14), Harbor Clearance Unit 2, Combat Harbor Patrol Division, Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit II, USS CONSERVER (ARS 39), Naval Experimental Diving Unit, USS ORTOLON (ASR 21), Naval Ocean Systems Center, USS DIXON (AS 37), Consolidated Divers Unit, Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (Instructor), Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit II, CG I MEF 1st Force Reconnaissance Co, USS GRAPPLE (ARS 53)(CMC), Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit II, Naval Submarine Escape Training Facility, 2nd Marine Division FMF Atlantic, Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (CMC), Naval Submarine Support Facility, Naval Pressurized Submarine Escape Training Facility.

Master Chief Leet qualified for his Small Craft OIC Insignia, Surface Warfare Specialist, Fleet Marine Force Warfare. He was selected for the CMC program and upon Graduating from the Senior Enlisted Academy Cass 125 (Gray Plankowner) and CMC/COB course 29 he was assigned as Command Master Chief / Master Diver Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit II. Following the assignment at MDSU-2 He served as the Master Diver at the Submarine Escape Training Facility New London CT, Command Master Chief / Master Diver of Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center, Panama City FL, Master Diver at the Naval Submarine Support Facility New London, and completed his service at the Submarine Escape Training Facility, New London CT. Retiring in June of 2016. Since Retirement he worked as a Merchant Captain on the St. Lawrence Seaway, he is now “mostly” retired living in the mountains of West Virginia.

Command Master Chief Leet’s awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1Gold Star) Navy Commendation Medal (4 Gold Stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2 Gold Stars), Good Conduct Medal (1 Silver Star); Combat Action Ribbon (1 Gold Star), and various campaign and service awards. At the time of his retirement He was the “Old Tar” and “Navy Copper Head.”
